Narrative, Triggers, Objects and Form: Some Questions

At IGNITE! 2015 , the opening session with Maya Krishna Rao in conversation with Mandeep Raikhy tried to get to the bottom of her creative process by taking up one particular work Heads Are Meant for Walking Into

“We were constantly fighting the narratives, adding more and more objects and creating civilizations on my table. But finally a narrative did emerge and it was about a woman frantically writing a manuscript not being able to finish it,” said Maya while talking about her research and improvisation in preparation for her piece.

She wanted her work to be a discovery. Mesmerized by what the camera could do, the camera became her co-actor. As she walked us through her methods of creation, we got a peek into her imagination and working style that is truly unique. She showed us images taken of random objects which she used to form her narratives.
